Located on both banks of the Scheldt River, OVET specializes in the storage, transshipment and processing of solid fuels, ores, and mineral. In recent years, OVET has broadened its activities to include a wide variety of other products in the bulk sector. Its main clients are steelworks, power stations and traders. OVET handles 7 Mt of bulk every year. Since more than 50 years, the company provides his clients tailor-made service. Its floating cranes ensure a large flexibility.

With its efficient equipment, it is possible to achieve a total transshipment capacity of 70 000 tons a day. OVET’s two terminals plus two allocated anchorage areas in the Western Sheldt estuary constitute a major share of the bulk transshipment capacity of the Zeeland ports. Owing to their flexibility and dimensions, the cranes are able to execute their tasks both on the Western Scheldt and in the various ports. Transshipment can be performed at the quayside as well as alongside the vessels (board to board).

The floating cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 25 tons and an outreach of 40 metres, can be towed between the terminal in Terneuzen and Vlissingen in three to four hours. In 2007, OVET acquired a new 36 ton floating crane.

Terminals

• Terneuzen: The port of Terneuzen lies on the south bank of the Western Scheldt. The OVET terminal is situated at the Massagoedhaven harbour for bulk goods) on the Ghent-Terneuzen canal (maximum depth: 12.5 metres).
• Flushing : The port of Vlissingen lies on the north bank of the Western Sheldt and has an open connection with the North Sea. (maximum depth : 16.5 metres)
