Head of this division : Pierre Guérin
This position of leader can be explained by the historical role ports have played in the coal logistics chain.
Through its subsidiaries, the Group is present in all the major ports in the ARA zone and in two large French ports: Dunkirk and Fos sur mer. Thanks to its know-how and competence the Group plays a leading role in the field of European port logistics. Among its competence one can list:
- Operation of floating cranes,
- Handling of steel products,
- Management of the largest bulk terminal in Europe.
Ongoing investments in sophisticated equipment for unloading, storing, and forwarding have allowed the Group to continue its development. It is with this logic in mind that in 2005 EMO invested in a railcar loading facility as well as in a new stacker/reclaimer bringing to six the number of stackers/reclaimers they own. With the same logic in mind, OVET bought a new 36 ton floating crane in 2007.
THE CONSUMERS
The major European coal and iron ore consumers are customers of the ATIC Services terminals located in the ARA ports, such as ArcelorMittal, Dillinger Hütte, EDF, Nuon, Oxbow or Essent.
In Fos sur Mer and Dunkirk, through the subsidiaries Sosersid and STE, anyone can have access to the facilities, though the main player at these facilities remains ArcelorMittal.
THE ARA ZONE
Thanks to the investments made by Manufrance, the financial holding of the companies covering this pole of activity, the following developments were made possible:
- the largest European coal terminal, the EMO Europort at Rotterdam, with a draft of 23.meters. Europort is recognized for its expertise in the field of bulk management
- the creation of OVET in Flushing and Terneuzen where the use of floating cranes gives great flexibility to the unloading of cargoes
- the re-development of the terminal in Amsterdam, thanks to the financial restructuring of the company OBA
MARSEILLES-FOS
Through Somarsid/Sosersid, the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Fos sur mer is outsourcing to the Group ATIC Services, at the iron ore quay, the operational activities, such as the leasing of the unloading facilities, stevedoring activities, and, at their steel quay, the activities linked to the forwarding and receiving of finished products. Thanks to its know-how, Sosersid has been able to expand its core activity into related cargo traffic, such as the handling of other type of bulk cargo and heavy break bulk, utilizing for this purpose a 250 ton lifting crane. The excellent well equipped infrastructure at Fos sur Mer and the presence of a skilled labor force, have enabled Sosersid to grow this activity rapidly.
DUNKIRK
Through STE, the Group ATIC Services operates the terminal located on the Scheldt River. This terminal is involved in the handling of the ArcelorMittal and Dillinger Hütte products going to Dunkirk, such as slab, coils, flat products; these products are either coming in or going out by inland waterways or by sea. STE has developed high level of expertise in the quality and productivity of the work it provides. In 2007, the terminal was equipped with a gantry for coasters and inland waterways boats which has contributed to improve further its performance.
